Mid-Western Cancer Centre

Mid-Western Cancer Centre Limerick

The Mid Western Cancer Centre at University Hospital Limerick is one of the 8 designated cancer centres in the country. Our team is dedicated to providing high-quality care to patients with a cancer diagnosis. The service provides comprehensive treatments in radiotherapy, chemotherapy and supportive care of patients diagnosed with cancer using a multi-disciplinary approach.

The Mid-Western Cancer Foundation’s aim is to complement and cooperate with the HSE, to assist the Regional Cancer Services in areas such as purchasing equipment, funding research, and continuing education that is necessary to support our designated national Cancer Centre. The Foundation also assists with funding for The Cancer Support Centre and helps to create awareness of Cancer in the Mid-West region.

We were fortunate to now have a new 24 single-room dedicated inpatient Cancer Unit with lovely gardens both within the unit and at the end. This enables patients and their families to have complete privacy and rest in a peaceful and therapeutic environment.

The Foundation has been paramount in supporting Nurses to become CNS and ANP’s through part funding of their Master’s. Also funding vital equipment used at ward level to enhance the Staff and Patient experience.

The Foundation funds the inpatient unit’s garden. It buys flowers and pots and furniture to make it a more holistic environment for Patients and their families. Also the new Family room on the inpatient unit.

The Foundation continues to receive donations from the people who have been treated in the Centre, and also their families and friends who have been affected by their experience. The presence of The Mid-Western Cancer Centre has enabled the majority of patients to be treated locally, thus remaining at home, with support from family, friends, and health professionals within the region.

We are very proud of the service established here, which has always been well supported by the people of the region.
