The Cancer Centre in Limerick provides a full range of services to patients with Cancer such as a dedicated inpatient Ward and Haematology/Oncology Day Ward where patients attend for pre diagnosis, at diagnosis time and for treatment thereafter.

We also have a Regional Specialist Breast Unit, Radiotherapy Centre & Palliative Care Services. Patients and their families can also avail of the Patient Information & Support Centre, which provides patients and their families with up-to-date, research-based information on their Cancer and their treatment by qualified and experienced staff.
The Support Centre also provides Support Groups, Psychological Support and Complementary Therapies in a quiet and peaceful environment.

These services are all critical to the people of the Mid West but need to be updated and expanded to accommodate the growing population and increasing number of patients with cancer in the Mid West. The money raised by the charity is used to better the Cancer Centre facilities and to make sure that the best treatment, services and cutting edge technology is available to Cancer Patients in the Mid West.

Palliative Medicine

There are two Palliative Medicine Consultants who attend the Midwestern Regional Hospital on a sessional basis throughout the week. They also have responsibility for inpatient beds at the Palliative Care Unit in Milford Care Centre. Both consultants have an outpatient clinic on alternate weeks at the Midwestern Oncology Centre.

Mid-Western Radiation Oncology Practice, Limerick

The Mid-Western Radiation Oncology Centre opened on the grounds of the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in October 2005. The service is operated by the Mater Private Hospital.

Treatment is planned and delivered using two modern linear accelerators, CT Simulator and treatment planning software. The multi-disciplinary team of specialists on site consists of a Consultant Radiation Oncologist, physics staff, radiation therapists, a nurse manager, a unit manager and administrative support. Following individual consultation, patients are treated on site and are supported by the wider cancer services team within the HSE.
